Exercise

April is a great time to start exercising and get in shape for warmer weather. Don’t worry if you’re not exercising now. You can get started slowly and before you know it, you’ll be in shape and ready for summer!

Even small changes to your exercise habits can greatly reduce your risk of developing many, more serious health conditions. Not to mention you’ll feel better, have more energy, and be able to burn more calories!

Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Keep moving. Any physical activities – even things that may not seem like exercise – can add up over time, like money in a bank. Researchers have found you can burn an extra 350-500 calories per day just by doing simple, everyday things like walking, holding your kids, doing yard work, and carrying groceries. And you can do these aerobic and strength activities without ever going to the gym!
  • Choose healthy hydration. Staying hydrated is necessary for your body to function properly, as well as to replenish it after any form of exercise. While water is necessary – and often the best choice – there are several other drinks you can try that are both healthy and help you stay hydrated. Learn more about which beverages help you stay hydrated while providing the most health benefits to you.
  • Exercising – even 15 minutes a day – improves your overall health. Many of us use the old excuse, “I’m just too busy too exercise!” While longer periods of exercise will often provide additional health benefits, when you’re starting out, even 15 minutes a day can help you start to feel better and increase your endurance to try longer exercise routines in the future. Check out the tips in this video to start incorporating exercise into your life in just 15 minutes a day!
